Italian Landscapes

A collection of oil paintings that were completed while traveling in the Italian countryside.  This learning process started with observing the surrounding landscapes and creating quick value sketches and monochromatic paintings.  These initial studies led to a simplified yet descriptive style for the full-color paintings.  These later works feature purposeful brushstrokes that create distinct structure and areas of focus.  The "plein air" method of painting gives the landscapes a certain intrinsic authenticity.
